Maude throws a party for Walter's 50th birthday. As expected, he is not happy about turning 50, thinking he has not achieved anything.

Maude prepares a surprise birthday party for Walter, who is depressed about turning 50. Always the optimist, however, Maude brings over an old friend to cheer Walter up, but it leads to even more ruin when the friend shows up to the party and dies.
