Vivian's Party was the tenth episode of Season 3 of Maude, also the 56th overall episode in the series. Prepared for TV as a teleplay written by Elliot Shoenman from a story penned by Barbara Avedon and Barbara Corday , the episode, which was directed by Hal Cooper, premiered on CBS-TV on November 18, 1974.

Synopsis== Arthur tells Vivian at the last minute that he is bringing twelve people home for dinner. Frantic, Vivian asks Maude and Mrs. Naugatuck to help her. Everything prepared, Maude and Walter go to the party and find they are not invited.

Summary ==[]

Arthur tells Vivian on short notice that she has to prepare a dinner party for twelve guests. Vivian's maid quits on the spot, forcing Maude and Mrs. Naugatuck to help Vivian with her dinner. Hell hath no fury like Maude scorned when she finds out that she and Walter are not invited to Vivian's party!

  • Mrs. Naugatuck comes down the stairs first in red shoes and goes back up in red stairs, when called back down she has black shoes on.
  • When Mrs Naugatuck comes downstairs she is wearing high heeled red shoes, then she is asked to go back upstairs still wearing the shoes. When asked to come fireball again, without ever leaving the room, he comes back down but she is wearing black clunky shoes. When Maude demands she go back upstairs she is wearing the red high heels again.
  • At the beginning of the episode, the refrigerator is shown as not having a tape recorder built into it. Later that scene, it seems the tape recorder appeared in the front of the refrigerator suddenly as Walter goes to listen to a message on it.


  • Mrs. Naugatuck's shoes change from black to red, red to black and then red as she's going up and down the stairs.
  • When Walter is first standing by the refrigerator, the freezer compartment looks normal. Just a minute later, the recording device magically appears.
