Veronica Rooney (Anne Meara) and her ex-husband Carmine (Jerry Stiller) have an offscreen relationship: they've been married since 1954, 26 years at the time this episode was originally aired. They are also the parents of actress Amy Stiller and her more famous brother, actor/comedian Ben Stiller.
In the future, Jerry Stiller and Anne Meara would play as another unconventional couple in CBS-TV's The King of Queens sitcom series, as Carrie's father Arthur and Spence's mother Veronica.
