The Taxi Caper is the 13th episode of the fourth season and the 74th overall episode of All in the Family. The Season 4 episode first aired on CBS-TV on December 8, 1973. The episode was written by Dennis Klein and was co-directed by John Rich and Bob LaHendro.

Synopsis
Archie is robbed while driving Munson's cab, and finds himself at odds with a corrupt politician who doesn't want him to report the crime. Archie's greed triumphs over common sense...and Archie loses as usual!
Summary
While moonlighting as a cab driver, Archie is held up and robbed of 50 dollars. At first, he insists upon prosecuting his assailant to the full extent of the law -- in fact, he'd be thrilled if armed robbery was a hanging offense. An unexpected plot twist involving a prominent politician, who's the father of the assailant, places an entirely new perspective on the situation, as Archie obliges in accepting a bribe from the politician's attorney, Mr. Morrison (Robert Mandan), as Archie suddenly changes his tune about the young man who robbed him.
When the assailant who robbed Archie, a young man, named Andy Farrell, who turns out to be a college student and the son of city commissioner Tom Farrell, Mr. Morrison, whose client happens to be the city commissioner, drops by the Bunker house and offers Archie a bribe of $100 to drop the charges he filed at the police station, as Archie gladly obliges in accepting it.
Needless to say, Mike and Gloria are both taken aback by his willingness to change his tune quickly about the young man, whom he first called a "creep", when at first he wanted him to rot under the jail cell, but turned hypocritical as he then would claim that didn't, as Mr. Morrison said, the young man's future political career "destroyed before it started", as Mike charges that Morrison was only out to protect the political career of his client, Commissioner Farrell, instead, from scandal.
Later, at the police station, when Archie goes back to retrieve his wallet, he finds the $50 he had in it gone, as the Det. Roselli who handled the case (Michael Pataki), and had wondered why Archie was so quickly all of a sudden was so quick to drop the criminal charges, tells Archie that the robber was seen carry a roll of cash on him and claimed that there was no money in the wallet as he was taken into custody No "Aint that a coincidence! That's what I said to Chuck (Sgt. Blair) here... I'll bet that Mr. Bunker's dough!" when Archie responds "That's my 50 bucks!", Roselli then says, again sarcastically, "Then I said, no, I must be wrong...How could I suspect a sweet innocent young boy, especially when no one's pressing charges!"
When Archie complains that he's out of 50 bucks, Sgt Blair tells him that his cab was impounded because he was parked in a tow away zone, as he's then told that he can pick it up at their impound lot at the pier -- for $50! When he complains that he'd be out of $100, Sgt. Blair corrects him, telling him $125, as Det. Roselli says he got a ticket for $25, as well! When Archie complains that the cost was "highway robbery", Roselli then sarcastically chimes, "It's Justice!"
The next morning, when Mike is reading the morning newspaper, the family learns of a prominent lawyer being indicted for an attempted bribe, as Mike reads on, they discover that it was Morrison, who offered Archie the $100 bribe, as Mike says, "Hey, we finally learned something!" as Archie, who calls Morrison a "dirty thief", replies, "Sure did...Don't ever take the first offer!"
