Recently divorced, Maude's friend Vivian decides to get a facelift. Carol and Walter love the "new Vivian" but Maude has nothing but contempt for Vivian's decision. Vivian rightly deems Maude jealous; Maude then makes an appointment to get the procedure done, keeping it secret from Walter.
Part 1 of a two-part story. At age 47, Vivian returns from a five-week trip to forget her problems after a divorce from her now ex-husband Chuck. She calls to say she is coming by and has a surprise. It is a surprise - she had a face lift and looks years younger, as her new face receives plenty of cheers from Carol and Walter, but only jeers from Maude.
Now Maude is upset because she looks older, which leads Vivian to state the obvious, Maude is jealous and would like a face-lift herself. Maude finally decides to have one and intends to keep it a secret from Walter until she has it done.
