Summary[]
The Bunkers are invited to Lionel's engagement party for his upcoming marriage to Jenny Willis, who comes from a mixed marriage. Her father, Tom (called Louis in this episode), is white while her mother, Helen, is black. This bothers Archie and really, really, really bothers George.
Storyline[]
Edith, Mike and Gloria are each extended a special invitation to attend Lionel's engagement party. However, Archie isn't invited, that is until a big argument between Louise and George results in Louise deciding to invite him. Later, during the party, George is in for a big shock when it turns out that Lionel's fiancee, Jennie has interracial parents.
Notes[]
- Zara Cully makes her first ever TV appearance as Mother Olivia Jefferson, George's mother, a role she would resume when The Jeffersons spun off into their own series the following year.
- Jenny Willis (played in this episode by Lynne Moody) and her interracial parents, Tom (in this episode, his first name is Louis) (Charles Aidman) and Helen Willis (Kim Hamilton) appear, but are played by different actors; the roles would later be recast in the episode "The Jeffersons Move Up", which would also be used as the pilot episode for The Jeffersons spinoff series.
- Hamilton would later appear in an episode of The Jeffersons as an old high school friend of Florence's.
