Fay DeWitt (born December 4, 1934) guest starred on All in the Family as Mrs. Haskell, one of the neighbors who dropped by the Bunkers' home to meet Sammy Davis, Jr., when he dropped by to retrieve his briefcase that he left in the cab Archie Bunker was driving in the Season 2 episode "Sammy's Visit" (#20).
A venerable character actress in TV and films, Fay is known for her many guest appearances on TV shows (primarily sitcoms) dating back to the 1950s, as well as her numerous film appearances that also date back nearly as far (the 1960s), which, most recently, includes work in the movies Crazy Ex-Girlfriend (2015), Red Dead Redemption (2010) and Circle (2015).
Trivia[]
In 1965, Fay was charged with stabbing her ex-husband, playwright Ray Allen (1911-1965), to death with a letter opener. The next day, charges were dropped after it was determined that Allen was drunk, broke into DeWitt's home, and repeatedly banged her head against a wall. The couple had been divorced for about a month at the time of the incident.
