Synopsis[]
At a coin-operated laundry, Archie breaks one of the machines, and the manager wants to collect damages. Edith reluctantly agrees to arbitrate the grievance lest it wind up in small claims court.
Summary[]
Archie gets into an argument with Assyrian laundry owner, Mr. Girgis (special guest star Jack Weston) when each blames the other for breaking a washing machine. When it becomes clear that neither side will back down, Edith finds herself arbitrating between her husband and the owner, as she chooses to remove herself from the case because she really feels that Archie is actually the guilty party. Naturally, Archie is convinced that Edith should, being his wife, and will change her mind and elect to decide in his favor, as he insists she do -- but don't be too sure that she will put loyalty above honesty.
Mike then suggests that rather than to try to settle it in court, which would be a waste of both time and money for both parties, that the two, Archie and Girgis, should try to find an honest and impartial person to settle the matter in private. Girgis suggests that Edith should be that person. In hearing the case, Edith decides to remove herself from the case because she knows who is guilty. She remembers setting the scale back five pounds because she knows that Archie gets mad when he gains weight, so Archie was really, albeit unknowingly, at fault.
