Synopsis[]
Edith is dismissed when she honors a patient's wishes and lets her die in peace.
Storyline[]
Edith loses her job at the Sunshine Home after being in the company of a terminally ill woman as she died. The thing is, Edith honored the woman's wish to "die with dignity," and she did nothing to alert the on-duty nurses after she lost consciousness. The woman's family complained, and Edith was let go. In the end, the woman's daughter thanks Edith because her mother is no longer suffering.

Trivia[]
- Note: Danielle Brisebois doesn't appear in this episode.
- Despite Norman Lear's history of challenging on behalf of separation of church and state, the subject of accepting death, which the episode brought up, was in fact at the time a frequent subject of Rev. Billy Graham's sermons. Despite Graham even having closer ties to U.S. Presidents, Lear also did not tend to make Graham a frequent target of his organization People for the American Way, This was perhaps due to the fact that despite Graham's conservative stance on Christian theology, he was in fact otherwise a more social progressive Democrat, with Lyndon Johnson also being considered the President who was closest to Graham's political mindset. While he would on one occasion-The Man In The Street- use Nixon's ties to Graham to justify Nixon's Christian faith, at least two All In The Family episodes-including Joey's Baptism-even had Archie express greater disdain for Graham.
