Synopsis[]
Barney becomes despondent when Blanche finally leaves him for good. Archie decides to play matchmaker, but the woman is fat and ugly ... and very, very rich!
Storyline[]
Archie finds himself in the middle of a bad situation when a suicidal Barney Hefner calls him to announce that Blanche has run off again, this time with the furnace repairman. Archie concludes that Barney needs a new woman in his life, and sets him up with Martha Birkhorn (Peggy Rea) Edith's rich widowed, albeit obese, friend. Martha eventually meets Barney (Allan Melvin) for a blind date at the Bunker's residence. Martha is very heavy, and Barney's first impression of her was quite funny, but, being desperte for companionship since Blanches left, allows Archie to set him up with Martha. After a few tense moments, they actually start to like each other, probably more in a platonic way, but they go out and have fun together, and generally split evenly the costs of their outings.
