Archie Gets the Business (Part 1) is the season opening episode of Season 7 of All in the Family, the 158th overall episode in the series, and also the first part of a two-part, one hour episode story arc. Written by Larry Rhine and Mel Tolkin, the episode, which was directed by Paul Bogart, originally aired on CBS-TV on October 2, 1977.

Part 1 of a two part story. Archie tries to convince Edith to help him purchase Kelsey's bar. Archie winds up buying Kelsey's Bar, but had to forge Edith's signature in order to get the bank to loan him the money.


Kelsey has a heart attack, and decides to retire and sell the bar to the first person who can come up with $40,000. Archie is more than eager to buy it and quit his job, but must put his house at risk to get a loan, something that Edith is dead set against. Archie winds up buying Kelsey's Bar, but had to forge Edith's signature in order to get the bank to approve the loan in order to get the money to buy the bar.

Edith acts surprised by Archie's story of his father calling him "Meathead" even though he has told that story several times before in Edith's presence in earlier episodes.
