Slow business at the saloon depresses Archie, so well-meaning Hank Pivnik gives him some pills to help him cheer up. But Archie takes too many and the family fears for his health.

Business at Archie's Place isn't going very well, and Archie soon becomes exhausted from working too hard. Archie is in a grouchy mood because all of his business has moved down the street to McPheeney's place. Hank Pivnik then drops by and introduces him to a solution for his funk - in the form of a pill. Archie takes the pill and suddenly has a burst of energy that makes him ready to paint the front porch at 3 in the morning.

Mike is the first to catch on that something isn't right with Archie, as the family suspects that he is hooked on something, so the family goes to visit him at the bar to check on his well being, and he begins acting erratically, babbling incoherently about "opening taverns all over the place" and talking more nonsense. Suddenly, as he begins to come down from the high of the "pep pills" he'd been taking, and slips into a serious depression, realizing how far he has fallen and breaks down in tears.

Did You Know?[]

For unknown reasons MeTV skipped this episode during its 2023 run of the series but inexplicably ran the second part.
