Angelique McCarthy, a rather neurotic, chainsmoking, scatterbrained secretary appeared in the Season 2 episode of All in the Family titled "The Elevator Story". The part of Angelique is played by veteran film, television, and theater actress Eileen Brennan.
Angelique, who works in the Friedman Building, where the restaurant which the Bunkers and Stivics where dining at, who was apparently having a very bad day; firstly, she stubbed her toe on the way to the bus stop, causing her to miss the bus she usually takes to get on time to work, then when she got to work, she missed her boss, who was leaving early for the day, where she missed getting paid, then she gets trapped in an elevator with Archie, a wealthy stock investor named Hugh Victor Thompson III (Roscoe Lee Browne), the building janitor, Carlos Mendoza (Hector Elizondo) and his pregnant wife Sarafina (Edith Diaz).
Angelique, who apparently is also afraid of enclosed spaces, begins to panick, she, being claustrophobic, irks Archie by lunging towards him, urging "Hold Me!" Even with this, Angelique, who also suffers from "acrophobia, sixteen allergies, and a duodenal ulcer", still prides herself for "still holding together" in the stuck elevator!
