Amelia DeKuyper is a recurring character who appeared in two episodes of All in the Family, first in the Season 2 episode "Edith Gets a Mink", then in the Season 5 episode "Amelia's Divorce". The part of Amelia was originated by Rae Allen in the character's first appearance, before being replaced in the role by Elizabeth Wilson.
The DeKuypers and the Bunkers[]
Amelia, Edith's well-to-do cousin, is married to Russell DeKuyper, who works as a plumbing contractor and the couple lives in Westchester.
In Amelia's first appearance in the episode "Edith Gets a Mink", Amelia sends Edith her old mink stole as a gift because her husband bought a new one. Edith spills spaghetti sauce on it and the Bunkers send it to the Jefferson's Cleaners who accidentally destroy it. Amelia and Russell visit Archie and Edith just as Mrs. Jefferson delivers an insurance check in reimbursement for the ruined mink. Archie is furious when he finds that Edith has instructed the Jeffersons to make the check payable to Amelia.
In the "Amelia's Divorce" episode, when Russ and Amelia visit Archie, Archie, tired of hearing Russ brag about his job and how much money he earns, tries to excuse himself by going down to Kelsey's Bar only to find that Russell wants to go with him. Separately, both Archie find out how much trouble Russell and Amelia's marriage really is in. Upon entering the Bunker house, Amelia and Russell present themselves as an extremely happy couple. However, as Amelia is at home alone with Edith, she reveals that she has secretly been contemplating divorcing Russell and tries to get her "secret" on whatever she does to keep the magic in her marriage to Archie, as she is very certain that Russell is an unfaithful husband. He is hardly home and tells her he works late, though she knows that is he actually never in his office during some of these hours. Amelia strongly suspects he has in fact been committing adultery with younger girls, with her suspicions pretty much confirmed to be accurate when Russell reveals to Archie that he does in fact have an appetite for younger girls and even makes an attempt to hit on a young girl while at Kelsey's.
