Synopsis[]
Edith is looking forward to a visit from her cousin Amelia and her husband Russell whose marriage she thinks is perfect, but after learning how unhappy Russell and Amelia are together, Archie and Edith realize how lucky they are to have one another.
Episode summary[]
Edith's cousin Amelia and her husband Russell come to visit despite the fact that Archie can't stand either one. Amelia won't shut up about her love for Russell, and Russell won't shut up about his wealth. Archie tries to excuse himself from their love-fest by going down to Kelcy's, but Russell wants to go with him. Separately, Edith and Archie find out how much trouble Russell and Amelia's marriage is really in. Despite presenting themselves as an extremely happy couple upon entering the Bunker residence, Amelia later tells Edith in private that she is ready to divorce Russell. She strongly suspects that he is cheating, due to things like his supposed extended work hours, though she knows he is not at his office during some of these hours. Meanwhile, Russell tells Archie about his appetite for young girls. Returning home, Russell and Amelia say their goodbyes, leaving Archie and Edith with a new appreciation of their own relationship.
- Note: Rob Reiner and Sally Struthers both do not appear in this episode.
